He is currently a research associate in the research laboratories of the Eastman Kodak Company, which he joined in 1982. He has worked in the area of applied magnetics for over 15 years. His research in this area has involved the design and development of numerous magnetic devices and processes. He has extensive experience in the analysis and simulation of a broad range of magnetic applications including rare-earth permanent magnet structures, magnetic drives and suspensions, magnetic circuits, magnetic brush subsystems in the electrophotographic process, magnetic and magneto-optic recording, high-gradient magnetic separation, and electromechanical devices such as transducers, actuators and motors. His current research activity is in the area of microsystems and involves the analysis and simulation of various micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) including light modulators, microactuators and microfluidic components. Dr. Furlani has authored over 40 publications in scientific journals and holds over 100 US patents.<br />

Amb la publicació de Cavalls salvatges l’any 2000, Jordi Cussà es va presentar com a narrador amb un tema tan delicat i marginal com la corda fluixa dels addictes a l’heroïna. I per travar un paral·lelisme amb les peripècies autodestructives de l’acció, es va arriscar a més a una estructura formal ambiciosa i audaç de la qual cal destacar dos recursos. Un és la creació d’un cor de veus narradores, que alambinen la novel·la com un calidoscopi de lletres, frases, capítols, i l’altre la inclusió de poemes, atribuïts a aquests personatges, i de fragments i evocacions de cançons de l’època, per acréixer la versemblança i aprofundir el context. És aquesta diversitat el que engalana Cavalls salvatges amb una trama de llenguatges plena de transgressions, de matisos, de troballes i petites joies literàries. La revisió per a aquesta segona edició, per tant, s’havia de fer assumint que l’autor de la novel·la original se’l va endur el vent ja fa vint anys, però que calia preservar el cos de la seva obra, i polir només el mínimament indispensable. Tot i així, l’elasticitat del text actual i el pròleg de Matthew Tree, després de l’aparició de Formentera lady, que pot considerar-se’n una segona part, animen de nou els lectors a aquest gran convit literari.

Nathan Frey viaja en auto por la autopista con sus dos hijas de 6 y 9 años, vuelven de un fin de semana largo en Nueva York, donde visitaron a la familia de su esposa, quien decidió quedarse un par de días más con sus padres. Un viaje normal, hasta que surge una especie de altercado con unos tipos que van en otro auto en la misma dirección que ellos. Y con ese evento, se desata la más tremenda y conmovedora obra de Stephen Dixon. Como en una especie de loop, luego del primer capítulo, donde se narra la vida de Nat y de su familia en los años siguientes, el narrador repasa ese viaje en auto siete veces más, desde ópticas diferentes o haciendo foco en momentos puntuales. Un libro de estructura que con una intensidad emocional extraordinaria logra tener al lector atrapado de principio a fin.
